Rejected....yet again!

Vous vous souvenez sûrement de l’article concernant le stage que je dois impérativement effectuer pendant une semaine en Avril pour l’école? Vous vous souvenez également que j’avais déposé ma candidature à la clinique vétérinaire près de chez moi, mais que je m’étais fait rejeter à cause de mon niveau insuffisant en néerlandais.

Do you remember the article about the week-long “job” in April I am required to do at a local business for my school? Well if you do, then you’ll also remember when I submitted a (request) application to do this job/stage at a veterinary clinic close to home, my application was rejected after I interviewed with the clinic because the veterinarians considered my level of Dutch not to be good enough.

Entre temps j’ai fait de nombreuses recherches ici et là sans succès. Finalement en janvier, suite à une conversation encourageante  avec un voisin, j’ai déposé ma candidature chez un avocat qui travaille pour la Cour Pénale Internationale. Je croyais vraiment que j’allais décrocher ce stage.  J’étais sûr que l’avocat allait me contacter bientôt pour me donner le code accès de l’entrée du parking à vélo où je stationnerais mon vélo quand je me rendrais au bureau pour la semaine. J’en étais sûr…

Since that time, I’ve made numerous inquiries in and around The Hague without much success. Then, finally, in early January following an uplifting conversation with a neighbor, I sent my application to a lawyer who works at the International Criminal Court. I thought I stood an excellent chance of getting selected. I was confident that the lawyer would be contacting me shortly to give me the secret access code to the bike lot where I would park my bike the week I’d come to work for him. I was so sure of it…

J’ai alors attendu une semaine…puis deux, puis un mois. Enfin, dans le courrier d’hier, il y avait une lettre pour moi de l’avocat. J’étais si heureux d’avoir des nouvelles! Dès que je l’ai ouverte, j’ai commencé à chercher des yeux le code d’accès pour pourvoir stationner mon vélo, mais il n’y en avait pas…

L’avocat m’informait simplement qu’il avait rejeté ma candidature sans m’en donner la raison.

Well, then I waited a week…then two weeks, and then two weeks turned into a month. Until, finally, in yesterday’s mail there was a letter addressed to me from the lawyer. I was so excited, I ripped opened the envelope while my eyes scanned the letter for that secret code to enter the parking lot, but there was none…

The lawyer was just informing me that he had rejected my request without giving any reason why.

Et oui, je sais très bien que le stage est prévu pour Avril prochain et que nous sommes maintenant à la fin du Février et je n’ai toujours rien trouvé, mais est-ce ma faute si ma candidature est tout le temps rejetée?

And yes, I do realize that the “stage” is coming up in April and we are now nearing the end of February and I have not yet found anything, but is it my fault that my requests keep getting rejected?  

Il me reste encore du temps de trouver quelque chose. Je n’ai pas l’intention de baisser les bras maintenant! Il y a un luthier qui a un magasin dans mon quartier. Il m’a déjà rendu service en remplaçant deux fois les cordes de ma guitare acoustique. De plus il parle bien anglais. J’espère qu’il embauchera un adolescent pendant une semaine. Après tout, j’ai une excellente connaissance du monde de la guitare et de la musique en général. Ça serait cool de faire mon stage chez lui!

I still have some time left to find something!  I don’t intend to give up the search now! There’s a luthier who owns a small shop in my neighborhood. He has come to my aide twice by fixing broken strings on my acoustic guitar. He speaks fairly good English too. I hope that he will consider taking a teenager on board for a week. After all, I have a great appreciation for music and also have excellent knowledge of guitars. It would be cool to do my stage in his shop!

So it's decided! Tomorrow after classes, I'm going to stop by his shop to give him my speal. Wish me all “veel sucess”!
