Hi, this is my first part of the other blog that I posted way back the 31st of August.

Due to the exceptionally hot weather (31 degree celcius), today, we decided to head to the beach in "Schevenigen". There's a very nice boardwalk area with restaurants, boutiques and you'll even find a Sea Life. Usually the water temperature of the North Sea never goes past 14C, but due to the hot weather of the past couple of days, I felt it was warmer. The water felt really nice and there weren't too many waves . I decided to swim a little bit further out not really paying attention to how far out I was going when all of a sudden I heard a speed boat go by. As I looked up I saw a man pointing in my direction with a speaker horn in his hand. He started yelling and making hand gestures in my direction.....looking around I realised that he was probably addressing me as there was no one else nearby.....As I don't speak Dutch nor understand it too well, I gathered that I had swum out too far and needed to swim back closer to shore. How embarrassing.....I shouted a "Sorry" to him and made my way back toward the beach. After that, I decided to entertain my little sister by doing silly things like....laying flat on my stomach stilll making smimming gestures!!!Imagine my embarrasement when I started to hear laughter and looked up to see kids pointing at me! Since I'm very tall, 1 meter and 72 centimeters, I guess I must of really looked goofy....So I decided to lay on my blanket and take a nap, but then I was awakened by my two sisters who were begging me to go buy them ice-cream. Reluctantly, I got up and walked toward the boardwalk where one of the many ice-cream vendors where. I stood in line, waiting for my turn to be waited on. And I ordered them ice-cream. An hour later my sister was thirsty, since it was hot she wanted ice tea so I went back to the same ice-cream vendor and I got her one, to my surprise the man behind the counter addresed me directly in english, which meant he recognised me and at the end he said "see you again soon!", I thought "boy does that guy have good memory!" and went back to were my sister was waiting for my return.
After two and a half hours we decided to leave and go shopping, we went to a store called "Konmar". Since we've never been there before, we did not know they had all sorts of international products and that it was bigger than the local store we go to. After we got what we needed we headed home to take nice cool baths or showers to cool off after this hot, tiring and fun day.

Voilà!!!!

While taking a stroll in my neighborhood today, I encountered several strange-looking orange flags that were on display such as this one.  "Dichter aan huis"  I finally mustered up the courage to signal out someone in the long line that had formed outside of a house to ask its meaning.  A nice gentlemen kindly informed me that a Poetry Reading was about to take place. People were gathered outside because the poet was apparently running late for the reading.  I don't know if this happens every weekend as I didn't dare to press any further. But the next time I see one, I'll be getting in line too just to hear a poem read in Dutch!
.................................................
